Truth of the Eye
What we see shapes what we speak. An electric meditation on truth, justice, knowledge, and the responsibility to look beyond the surface.
Truth of the Eye is a statement on awareness and the human responsibility to see honestly. Created in response to political and social unrest, particularly in Minneapolis, the work remembers George Floyd, Renee Good, and Alex Pretti, honoring lives affected by injustice while asking what it means to witness and respond. The oversized central eye represents wisdom, curiosity, and the search for meaning beyond appearances. Stacks of books anchor the composition in knowledge, education, and collective growth. More personally, an eye placed within the mouth expresses a symbol at the heart of the artist's practice: speaking truth begins with seeing truth. Through saturated color, dense symbolism, and layered texture, the painting asks viewers not only to observe the world, but to consider what their observations demand of them.
